De zakkende stad is geen nieuw fenomeen. Steden in laag Nederland zakken al eeuwen, maar de opkomst van mechanische bodembemaling, onze omgang met het watersysteem, klimaatverandering en onze bouwcultuur versnellen dit proces. We moeten op zoek naar nieuwe wegen.
Operatie Zakkende Stad is een kritische reflectie op ons handelen en onderzoekt hoe een andere omgang met bodem en water kansen biedt voor de transformatie en verdichting van de bestaande stad. Het onderzoekt het toekomstig stedenbouwkundig instrumentarium van stoep tot stad en biedt een positief perspectief op deze opgave.

Cities in the lower parts of the Netherlands have been sinking for centuries, but mechanical soil drainage, the way in which we have organized our water system, climate change, and our building culture are accelerating this process. Operation Sinking City is a critical reflection on our current methods and examines how a different approach to our soil and watersystem can provide opportunities for the transformation and densification of the existing city. It explores a design vocabulary on the scales from sidewalk to the city and offers a positive perspective on this urgent matter.
